Stroke and Stroke Mimics: Diagnosis and Treatment
Howard A. Rowley, Achala Vagal
Abstract
Rapid yet comprehensive CT or MRI protocols are required for patients with suspected acute stroke. Although a key focus is to quickly identify candidates for intravenous thrombolysis or endovascular thrombectomy, part of the overall goal is also to make a precise diagnosis—whether stroke or a stroke mimic. In this chapter we review recent advances in stroke triage and treatment and provide recommendations to optimize stroke imaging workflow in clinical practice.
