Abstract
Based on the bond valence (s)–bond length (d) correlation curve accurately approximated for the Sn2+/F− ion pair using the equation s = exp[(r0 – d)/b] (where the optimized bond valence parameters are r0 = 1.761 Å and b = 0.52 Å), a set of effective ionic radii corresponding to different coordination numbers (CNs) and compatible with the Shannon radii system were derived for the Sn2+ cation as: 0.66 Å (CN = III), 0.81 Å (CN = IV), 1.02 Å (CN = VI), 1.17 Å (CN = VIII), and 1.38 Å (CN = XII).
