Abstract

(Abstracted from N Engl J Med 2018;379(19):1851–1860) In the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), disagreements about whether life-sustaining treatment can ethically be withheld or withdrawn are not uncommon. At times, doctors recommend treatments and parents refuse, and sometimes, parents request continued treatment that doctors think inappropriate.
