Abstract

Garbage disposal from domestic households has become a major source of concern across the globe. Further, municipal corporation have been taking initiatives to segregate dry and wet wastes. However, large domestic population do not contribute the initiative and waste management issue persists. This paper describes the design and development of a waste management system, by segregating the dry and wet organic waste produced in kitchens. The proposed system consists of two models: Firstly, a sorter bin for segregation of dry and wet waste is developed. Secondly, a composting unit is presented to convert organic waste into compost. The proposed model has been tested for waste produced in 20 houses, and it provides satisfactory results towards waste segregation and compost production.
