Abstract

This paper attempts to further demonstrate the capability of a highly effective metaheuristic approach known as Harris hawks optimization algorithm. In this respect, a vehicle cruise control system was used as one of the crucial real-world engineering optimization problems. The efficacy of the Harris hawks optimization algorithm was demonstrated through designing an optimal fractional order proportional-integral-derivative controller adopted in a vehicle cruise control system. The proposed approach in this work has been compared with other available and most effective approaches in the literature. The comparative transient and frequency stability analyses have confirmed the proposed approach to be superior to other promising techniques presented in the literature for operation of a vehicle cruise control system.
