Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most commonly identified prospective keys to release the burdens on the healthcare systems, and it has been focused widely in recent research. The healthcare industry faces pressures and challenges from nearly every aspect of operation. From managing equipment, inventory, and time to tracking patients, the level of accountability is high. A good example is medical inventories. Many hospitals overstock certain inventories to prevent ‘running out’ during an emergency. Even though research on IoT in healthcare concentrates on 360 degrees, a considerable amount of attention is given to the IoT tools and the technologies that will be the driving force for the current industry solutions and services given to the public. This chapter widely focuses on healthcare and the IoT in the current scenario, many state-of-the-art sensors that are developed for specific purposes, short-range and long-range machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, cloud technologies, and how sensing and big data management is considered.
