Abstract

-acetyltransferases (GNAT) family in S. mutans, acetylated LDH, inhibited its enzymatic ability to catalyze the conversion of pyruvate to lactic acid, and impaired its cariogenicity in a rat caries model. Therefore, LDH acetylation might be a potential target that can be exploited in the design of novel therapeutics to prevent dental caries.
