Improving the strength of bending elements of glued wood

Abstract

In the article, the behaviour of glued wood beams are studied in order to increase their strength under normal stresses by means of combined reinforcement. The design of the reinforced beam provides reinforcement of the compressed area by steel rod, and of the tensioned zone – by external tape reinforcement from high-strength composite materials. An attempt to increase the strength of wood elements at normal bending stresses using this type of reinforcement has been made. Based on the experimental research results, graphs of layer-by-layer deformation along the height of beams are constructed. Data on the bearing capacity of the tested samples are presented.
