A 3D Printed Waveguide Hybrid Bandpass Filter Integrated with Twisting and Bending Functionalities

Abstract
This paper presents a Ku-band waveguide component integrated with bandpass filtering, twisting, and bending functionalities. The device is developed upon a scheme of four cascaded distorted resonant cavities and a pair of orthogonal input and output waveguides in different orientations, resulting in highly compact configuration and significant reductions in weight, size, and insertion loss. In addition, by incorporating hybrid iris technique, an enhanced out-of-band response can be achieved. Owing to the geometry complexity, the component was 3-D printed based on photosensitive resin using a stereolithography printing process to maintain structural integrity while being lighter in weight. The measurements exhibit an excellent agreement with the simulations.
