Abstract

Abstract Sodium batteries are considered promising candidates for large‐scale energy storage systems due to abundant sodium resources and low costs. However, sodium batteries suffer from serious transition metal dissolution, undesirable side reactions, and increased thermal runaway risk at elevated operation temperatures. Electrolyte, as a key component of sodium batteries, is closely related to temperature tolerance. Herein, we focus on recent achievements in organic liquid electrolyte for high‐temperature sodium batteries. First, the failure mechanisms of sodium batteries are discussed at elevated temperatures. Subsequently, we introduce the components of organic liquid electrolyte and summarize the effective electrolyte optimization strategies for high‐temperature sodium batteries, including salt selection, concentration regulation, solvents optimization, and electrolyte additives. Finally, further directions of electrolyte for high‐temperature sodium batteries are proposed. It is believed that this review can provide a whole picture and insight into the electrolyte design for high‐temperature sodium batteries.
