Overview of exhaust gas heat recovery technologies for radiant heating systems in large halls

Abstract

Heating large halls consumes a significant amount of energy. Gas radiant heaters are a common solution in hall spaces and are considered to be more energy efficient than convection heating systems. It can be also apply waste heat recovery (WHR) from flue gases of radiant heaters. This paper deals with ceramic and tube gas radiant heaters and state-of-the-art WHR technologies and systems applied in flue gases system of gas radiant heaters. The research analyses the heat exchanger type, exhaust temperature, intermediary utilities (water/air), number of additional devices and recovery system placement. This analysis enables the overall description of the devices efficiency, exhaust temperature range, benefits and limitations of the WHR systems. This is followed by an assessment of the economic aspect and guidelines for future research in this field. The key conclusions is that the WHR system development requires more research, essentially into ceramic gas heaters and technology with water as a medium, more energy and profitability analyses of energy gain and additional energy consumption associated with WHR’s operation plus significant information dissemination and financial support on WHR examination.
