Abstract

Abstract As bulk and fundamental chemical feedstocks, aromatic compounds play a prominent role in organic synthesis. In this regard, extensive efforts have been made to develop highly efficient synthetic methods for the conversion of planar aromatic compounds to various high‐value molecules. Among these, dearomatization reactions are particularly attractive because they demonstrate unique possibilities for assembling sophisticated polycyclic architectures from readily available aromatic feedstocks. Cyclic molecules are among the most important compounds, and are widely used in fields such as pharmaceuticals, materials, and synthesis. In this review, we summarized recent developments in transition‐metal‐catalysed dearomatization processes for the construction of complex cyclic compounds.
