Abstract
• The Gran Chaco, a biodiversity hotspot, is facing land use change and wildfires. • Fire and its impacts are unevenly studied across different Chaco regions. • The Paraguayan Chaco is, by far, the least studied subregion in terms of fire dynamic. • The fire effect on soils and wildlife are among the most unexplored aspects. • Land use pattern and water availability are key elements to understand fire dynamic.
