Abstract
In Brief Anemia is common in presurgical patients and is associated with poor clinical outcomes, even without erythrocyte transfusion. Structured preoperative programs for anemia management are associated with fewer blood transfusions, increased hemoglobin concentrations, and improved outcomes.
