Abstract

Micro-Doppler shift induced by precession is crucial for ballistic target recognition. However, traditional single radar has the limitation of single viewing angle, while radar network (RNW) faces complex data processing problem to extract the precession and structure parameters of the ballistic target. In this article, we establish a cone-shaped warhead model for ballistic missile (BM) and propose to estimate the precession and structure parameters of the BM target via micro-Doppler shift using a hybrid radar with traditional linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal and vortex electromagnetic (EM) wave signal. Via high-resolution range profile (HRRP) and the separation of radial and rotational Doppler shifts, the precession and structure parameters, such as height, base radius, and precession angle of the conical warhead, are estimated with high accuracy.
