Abstract
knockout mice show higher susceptibility to lethal CNS infection and the surviving animals demonstrate cognitive deficiency. Our research suggests that OPTN-mediated autophagy provides an intrinsic immune barrier against neurotropic viruses and protects the CNS from neurodegenerative stress.
