Abstract

This paper compares the sensorless vector control techniques of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM). Sliding mode observer (SMO) and Model reference adaptive system (MRAS) are compared. SMO are known for their robust nature. The SMO is traditionally used for sensorless control. Although the SMO performs well in high-speed range but struggles at low speed and could not provide wide speed operation. MRAS provide wide speed operation and has better rotor angle estimation in dynamic condition. Both the techniques have been simulated under MATLAB environment with different dynamics condition. It is shown that the dynamic performance of MRAS is better than the SMO.
