A transition-metal-free strategy enables inverse site-selective [4 + 2] cycloaddition of benzosilacyclobutanes with activated ketones via DMSO-mediated C(sp 3 )–Si bond cleavage, contrasting conventional transition-metal-catalyzed pathways.
