Abstract

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is considered as a critical technology for future wireless communication networks. In this letter, we show that in a RIS-aided wideband THz communication system, the radiated beams steer away from the desired direction, which is known as the beam squint. Aiming to mitigate the beam squint, we utilize the element-grouping strategy and equip each sub-surface of RIS with a time-delay unit. Simulation results show that the beam squint becomes serious with the increase of the RIS’s size, and that the time-delay unit could effectively mitigate the beam squint and significantly improve the power gain.
