Abstract

We study the phenomenology of the charged Higgs boson at future muon colliders. We investigate the pair production <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><a:msup><a:mi>μ</a:mi><a:mo>+</a:mo></a:msup><a:msup><a:mi>μ</a:mi><a:mo>−</a:mo></a:msup><a:mo stretchy="false">→</a:mo><a:msup><a:mi>H</a:mi><a:mo>+</a:mo></a:msup><a:msup><a:mi>H</a:mi><a:mo>−</a:mo></a:msup></a:math>, the single production <d:math xmlns:d="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><d:msup><d:mi>μ</d:mi><d:mo>+</d:mo></d:msup><d:msup><d:mi>μ</d:mi><d:mo>−</d:mo></d:msup><d:mo stretchy="false">→</d:mo><d:msup><d:mi>W</d:mi><d:mo>±</d:mo></d:msup><d:msup><d:mi>H</d:mi><d:mo>∓</d:mo></d:msup></d:math>, as well as the vector boson fusion (VBF) <g:math xmlns:g="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><g:mo stretchy="false">{</g:mo><g:msup><g:mi>e</g:mi><g:mo>+</g:mo></g:msup><g:msup><g:mi>e</g:mi><g:mo>−</g:mo></g:msup><g:mo>,</g:mo><g:msup><g:mi>μ</g:mi><g:mo>+</g:mo></g:msup><g:msup><g:mi>μ</g:mi><g:mo>−</g:mo></g:msup><g:mo stretchy="false">}</g:mo><g:mo stretchy="false">→</g:mo><g:mi>ν</g:mi><g:mover accent="true"><g:mi>ν</g:mi><g:mo stretchy="false">¯</g:mo></g:mover><g:msup><g:mi>H</g:mi><g:mo>+</g:mo></g:msup><g:msup><g:mi>H</g:mi><g:mo>−</g:mo></g:msup></g:math>. We show that the neutral Higgs exchange diagrams in the muon collider case can lead to a significant boost in the cross sections through their Yukawa couplings. Our results for the muon collider are systematically compared to the corresponding ones at <n:math xmlns:n="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><n:msup><n:mi>e</n:mi><n:mo>+</n:mo></n:msup><n:msup><n:mi>e</n:mi><n:mo>−</n:mo></n:msup></n:math> machines. It is demonstrated that the VBF <p:math xmlns:p="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><p:msup><p:mi>e</p:mi><p:mo>+</p:mo></p:msup><p:msup><p:mi>e</p:mi><p:mo>−</p:mo></p:msup><p:mo stretchy="false">→</p:mo><p:mi>ν</p:mi><p:mover accent="true"><p:mi>ν</p:mi><p:mo stretchy="false">¯</p:mo></p:mover><p:msup><p:mi>H</p:mi><p:mo>+</p:mo></p:msup><p:msup><p:mi>H</p:mi><p:mo>−</p:mo></p:msup></p:math> can compete with the mentioned <u:math xmlns:u="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><u:mn>2</u:mn><u:mo stretchy="false">→</u:mo><u:mn>2</u:mn></u:math> processes. We select benchmark points and perform signal-background analyses, taking into account detector simulations. We demonstrate the discovery region at <x:math xmlns:x="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><x:mn>5</x:mn><x:mi>σ</x:mi></x:math> and the excluded region at <z:math xmlns:z="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><z:mn>2</z:mn><z:mi>σ</z:mi></z:math> levels at a 3 TeV muon collider.
