Abstract

ABSTRACT In this article, we describe and analyze the tensions and disputes over the ownership and use of natural wetlands in a protected area in the Colombian Caribbean, called Distrito Regional de Manejo Integrado Complejo Cenagoso Ciénaga de Zarate, Malibú y Veladero (DRMI-CCZMV). The case under study is associated, on the one hand, with global phenomena such as climate change, land and water grabbing, and their relationship with neoliberal capitalism. On the other, it describes more localized historical processes, such as conflicts between different actors over resource use. To analyze this problem, we propose the concept of dispossession in amphibious territories, in order to understand the historical disputes that occur in these complex environments.
