Abstract

The recent advances in machining technology are the practice of high-speed machining (HSM). HSM is a metal cutting process that emphasizes rapid speed and feed rates to enhance productivity and surface quality. HSM is widely used in aerospace production, die and mold manufacturing, automotive industries, micromachining, precision components, optic industries, and household appliances. The main focus of this chapter is to introduce HSM technology. It starts with an introduction to HSM, that is, historical development and definitions, difference between HSM and conventional machining, and then progressively followed by discussion on tooling system and control in HSM. Finally, this chapter ends with conclusion and future scope.
