Abstract

The EEXI is a new IMO index for assessing the energy efficiency and environmental impact of ships that have already been put into service. The study presents specifics in its calculation, which, despite some similarities in the definitions, distinguish it from the existing indicators EEDI and EEOI. According to the requirements of Annex VI of MARPOL, after 2023 the index will be mandatory for all ships with a tonnage of over 400 GT. As part of the study, a comparative analysis between EEOI and EEXI is presented, which may be useful for researchers and ship operators.
