Abstract

This research focuses on addressing active power losses in radial distribution networks, particularly in regions like Kashmir, India, where energy demand is rising. To enhance the distribution system, renewable energy sources such as solar PV are integrated. The paper employs the modified Jaya algorithm (Mo-Jaya) to identify optimal nodes for injecting renewable-source capacitors in the distribution network. This strategic placement aims to minimise power losses, enhance voltage profiles, improve power efficiency, and reduce overall system costs. The study utilises a deterministic approach to determine the size of the solar PV-based capacitor. The proposed method is tested on 33-bus and 69-bus systems, demonstrating its effectiveness in achieving optimal configurations. The proposed method Mo-Jaya has also been compared with Jaya and the genetic algorithm. Mo-Jaya provides the optimal and best solution for a large population and a high number of iterations. MATLAB is employed for implementation and analysis, showcasing the technical, commercial, and environmental benefits of the proposed approach.
