Abstract

Herpetic lesions are a significant problem, and they are difficult to control with therapeutics. Our studies show that the severity of herpetic lesions in a mouse model can be diminished by changing the diet to include increased levels of SCFA, which act to inhibit the involvement of inflammatory T cells. We suggest that changing the diet to include higher levels of SCFA might be a useful approach to reducing the impact of recurrent herpetic lesions in humans.
