Abstract

Spiropyrans coordinate to Dy III and Tb III iodides to form crystalline (TBA + ){(TMI-NPS) 2 ·Ln III I 4 } − ·0.5C 6 H 4 Cl 2 (1 and 2). 1 is a single-ion magnet (SIM) with large U eff = 470 cm −1 , 2 is a field-induced SIM. The complex with Dy is photoresponsive.
