Abstract

High temperature superconducting (HTS) machine has a broad application prospect in the electric aircraft field, because of its high efficiency and power density property. Especially when the homopolar inductor rotor was used in the HTS generator, its stationary HTS field winding brings great advantages of simplicity and reliability. However, the reduced excitation efficiency of the rotor, because of the flux leakage of slot and the nonuniform flux density distribution of pole, has not been effectively solved. The permanent magnet (PM) is arranged at the rotor slot of HTS homopolar inductor alternator (HIA) for auxiliary excitation in this paper, to fully take advantage of the rotor structure and upgrade the excitation capacity. And the electromagnetic characteristic analysis method of this kind of superconducting hybrid excitation HIA (SHEHIA) is established, and its field winding and permanent magnet (PM) circuit are decoupled to calculate airgap flux density and inductance of d-axis and q axis. Finally, the finite element model and the prototype of SHEHIA are designed and manufactured respectively, the results of finite element analysis and experiment verify the theoretical analysis, and the excitation capacity of the rotor has been effectively improved.
