Doxorubicin-Dexrazoxane from Day 1 for Soft-tissue Sarcomas: The Road to Cardioprotection
Robert S. Benjamin, Giorgio Minotti
Abstract
Abstract Doxorubicin cardiac toxicity is widely misunderstood, largely preventable, and starts with the first dose. This article reviews the history of doxorubicin cardiac toxicity and strategies for minimizing it. Dexrazoxane cardioprotection can safely be initiated on day 1 without compromising antitumor activity, allowing doxorubicin administration beyond the reported maximum lifetime dose.
