Abstract

Summary This paper presents the fork‐shaped antenna that can reconfigure frequency and pattern. The size of the proposed antenna is 29 × 23 mm 2 . Four PIN diodes are used to reconfigure frequency and pattern of the proposed antenna. The proposed antenna operates at various frequencies, that is, 3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.72, 4.9, 5, 5.2 and 5.5 GHz, and has a pattern tilt from −170° to +170° in yz plane in various switching modes of PIN diodes. The proposed antenna is simulated in high‐frequency structure simulator (HFSS). In HFSS, lumped RLC elements are used to reconfigure pattern and frequency. PIN diodes are incorporated in fabricated prototype for switching to validate the simulated results. The proposed antenna shows a good matching in simulated and measured results.
