Abstract

High temperature water steam is greatly required in the processing and manufacturing procedures in industrial applications. Water steam compressing and high temperature heat pump are promising substitute of boilers in generating high pressure water steam, but their performance as well as construction cost were determined by the operating conditions. In this paper, three different steam producing system which combined heat pumps and steam compression are introduced. Mathematical models are developed to evaluate the performance, while techno-economic analysis is also conducted. The COP, construction cost and optimal mid-stage temperature are analyzed with the change of operating conditions. The results illustrate that the two-stage steam compressing system has higher COP but the construction cost is also much larger. The optimal mid-stage temperature is influenced by the operating condition, while the steam compressing systems are more robust to changes.
