Abstract
This study examined the present status of solid waste management in rural destinations of India, and its effects on tourism and the environment. The study's main objective is to find ways in which the enormous quantity of solid waste in rural destinations of India currently disposed of on land can be reduced by sustainable practices. The focus should be on responsible practices and the role of public and private bodies plays a crucial role. This research seeks to delve into solid waste management practices within the landscapes of the Indian rural region while highlighting the significance of sustainable practices and solutions. Many studies have investigated sustainable tourism practices in rural tourist destinations. Still, the waste management system in these rural destinations has yet to be explored as far as rural tourism in India is concerned. This study is based on a detailed literature review, and data was collected from reputed journals, government documents, reports, and edited books that were published at national and international levels.
