Abstract
hared decision making (SDM) is a collaborative process in which patients and providers work together to create mutually agreed-on care plans. 1 SDM centers patients' values and preferences and can improve patient-provider communication and patient experience. SDM is both grounded in and a natural extension of patient-centered care and has the potential to advance health equity. We further propose that SDM should take into account the unique social context that contributes to health outcomes. In doing so, SDM can become a lever for improving the quality of cardiovascular care and reducing disparities in cardiovascular disease (CVD). 1,
