Abstract

Abstract This paper presents the results of tensile tests of elementary carbon fibers used to make unidirectional carbon tapes LU-P/0,2 and FibArmTape 230/300 and grade GG1200T and GG200T carbon fabric before and after the activation process that precedes the depositing of metal coatings. For activation of carbon tapes and fabrics, two low-temperature plasma units, one pulse unit, and one magnetron sputtering unit were used. The magnetron sputtering unit allowed fibers’ activation before metallization. The influence of activation duration and the type of apparatus for preprocessing on the mechanical strength of carbon fibers was investigated.
