Abstract

Hexakis( meta -fluoro)substituted triphenylmethyl cation (F 6 Tr + ) was isolated with a carborane partner anion. Its significantly higher hydride affinity compared to the parent (Tr + ) allows it to abstract hydrides from a variety of C(sp 3 )–H bonds.
