Abstract
The X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) of Au colloidal nanoparticles (Au NPs) and Au–NPs/linear carbon chain (LCC) structures ([email protected]) prepared by nanosecond pulsed laser ablation in liquid water were measured. The Au 4f XPS peaks of Au NPs coincided with those of metallic gold to confirm that a metallic state was retained in colloidal Au nanoparticles. On the other hand, the Au 4f XPS spectra of [email protected] showed a low-energy broadening due to the formation of Au–C bonds between Au NPs and LCC.
