Abstract

Optical communication networks are the main traffic carriers deployed across the world. Since the late 1970s, these networks are being improved in terms of its design and performance. Recent years have witnessed the high speed 800 Gbps optical communication. Several optical networking vendors are ready to deploy 800 Gbps fibers. This is a large step forward in the core and access networks. This high-speed optical communication system is essential for the emerging high-speed communication networks such as the fifth-generation mobile communication and tactile Internet. This research article will study and analyze the recent developments in high-speed optical networks. Then, the principles and realities of these high-speed systems are shown. Also, the main state-of-the-art of 800 Gbps systems are presented and analyzed their potentials in the long term.
