Abstract

Microalgae cell concentration is one of the most commonly used and important parameter in microalgae culture and ecological monitoring. The traditional detection process is cumbersome, laborious, and time-consuming, and it is impossible to quickly analyze the concentration of algae cells. Spectroscopy technology provides a simple, accurate and fast detection method for the field of microalgae monitoring. In the past few years, there have been a lot of researches on spectral techniques, which can quantify algal cell concentration by measuring various alternative indicators. In this review, the application of several commonly used spectroscopic techniques in the detection of microalgal cell concentration is reviewed, including absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy and spectral imaging technology. The application progress of these techniques is evaluated on the aspects of software and hardware, including the development of measurement equipment and the application of machine learning. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of these spectroscopic techniques are discussed, and some views on the future development trend are provided.
