Abstract

A low voltage, and phase noise Colpitts voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with even harmonic mixer and balun for 5.8-GHz-band application is proposed and implemented in tsmc 0.18-um CMOS process. The proposed VCO has two main features; 1.0 V low supply voltage, and using two single-ended complementary Colpitts LC circuits. Measured results achieve tuning range of 5.17 to 5.97 GHz, corresponding to 14.6%, phase noise of -117.57dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from 5.8 GHz while the tuned control voltage is adjustable from 0 to 1.0V and output power of -8.97 dBm at 50$- \Omega$ termination. The power consumption of core circuit is 3.58 mW and the VCO chip dimension including pads is 0.40 (0.71x0.56)mm 2 . The proposed even harmonic mixer with four phase local oscillator switching mixer adopts a conversion power gain of 0.98 to 5.76 dB, LO power of -9dBm, input $\mathrm{P}_{{\mathrm {1dB}}}$ of -12 to- 17 dBm, IIP3 of -10.7 to 0.16 dBm, LO-RF isolation of 34 dB, respectively.
