Abstract

Metasurfaces are powerful platforms for controlling light, with bandwidth and efficiency being the two key parameters. Here conventional transmissive metasurfaces suffer, because they rely on multipoles of different resonant nature to construct Huygens sources. The authors explore the possibility of utilizing congener dipoles (solely electric, without a magnetic component) with similar resonant properties to release these constraints. Beam deflection and focusing, over a broad wavelength band and with high efficiency, are demonstrated. This approach extends the design methodology and improves the performance of metasurfaces.
