Abstract
An experimental study is carried out to quantify the aerodynamic loads and farfield noise radiation of propeller with different number of blades. The effect of propellers with different blade numbers are studied over a range of rotational speeds of the propeller. Detailed acoustic measurements such as power spectral analysis, sound pressure levels and directivity are carried out to show the effect of blade numbers. the propellers with higher blade number generate higher thrust and torque for the same rotational speed compared to propellers with a lower blade number. Different noise components are plotted, where the tonal noise of low blade number on total OASPL is significant compared to the higher blade numbers. The result shows the higher broadband noise level for 5-bladed propellers than 2-bladed at the same rotational speed.
