Abstract

carbons in olefins, electrophilic epoxides have opposite reactivity and often function as "disappearing groups", opened by intramolecular nucleophiles during metabolite maturation. "Thwarted" oxygenases generate radical intermediates that rearrange internally and are not captured oxygenatively.
