Abstract
The world population exceeded eight billion in 2022 and will continue to grow rapidly in the coming decades. To support the survival and well-being of this large and growing population, numerous natural resources have been overexploited, and a large amount of waste has been generated, inducing forms of ecosystem degradation, such as biodiversity loss, productivity decline, and environmental pollution, which undermine the capacity of sustainable development for socioecological systems at multiple scales.
