Abstract

An optimal design of power system stabilizer (PSS) in a single-machine infinite-bus power system using slime mould algorithm (SMA) is introduced in this paper. The parameter adjustment of PSS has been defined as an optimization problem and solved using SMA by minimizing a performance index based on the integral of time multiplied absolute error (ITAE). The performance of the designed SMA based PSS has been compared with the conventional PSS and grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA) based PSS. The effectiveness of the proposed SMA based PSS in enhancing the dynamic stability of single-machine infinite-bus power system has been verified through convergence profile analysis, eigenvalue analysis and nonlinear simulations.
