Abstract

In this letter, a sub-6 GHz and millimeter-wave (mm-wave) dual-band aperture-shared phone multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is presented for 5G/6G applications. A MIMO slot antenna in the frame of the phone is adopted for the sub-6 GHz band applications. A wideband ring Yagi antenna with the smaller ring director in the slot antenna is proposed for mm-wave band. To enhance the mm-wave band gain, a 1 × 4 Yagi array is designed and then the four arrays are located at both sides of the phone for mm-wave MIMO applications. The measured dual-band impedance bandwidth is 8% (3.34 GHz to 3.62 GHz/–6 dB) and 21.2% (25.5 GHz to 31 GHz/–10 dB). The measured isolation is better than 16 dB for sub-6 GHz and 28 dB for mm-wave. Due to these advantages of high integration, compact size, and wideband, the proposed antenna scheme is promising for the 5G/6G mobile communication applications.
