Abstract: the article outlines the grounds for the appointment and production of a forensic examination to establish the severity of harm to health in living persons, namely a forensic medical examination; gives the basic concepts; presents regulatory legal acts regulating the appointment and production of this type of expertise; considers organizational and procedural problems faced by law enforcement officers when raising questions for a forensic medical expert, ways to solve them, as well as some difficulties in drawing up a conclusion by a forensic medical expert.
