Abstract
inflammatory caspase-1/4/5/11 and cleavage of GSDME by apoptotic caspase-3, respectively, give rise to GSDMD-N and N-terminal fragment of GSDME (GSDME-N), each of which subsequently executes pyroptosis However, to the best of our knowledge, the relationship of pyroptosis to dry AMD and STGD1 remains elusive. In this publication, we report that GSDME but not GSDMD plays a crucial role in photoreceptor degeneration in retinopathies that feature disrupted clearance of atRAL.
