Abstract
Chitosan vanillin Schiff base (ChVSB) was synthesized by condensation reaction between chitosan and vanillin and characterized by elemental, spectral, thermal, and scanning emission microscopic (SEM) analysis. The inhibition performance of ChVSB for mild steel corrosion was evaluated using electrochemical techniques and showed a better inhibition of 91.1% for 1500 ppm. The inhibition is attributed to the formation of protective layer on the metal surface which was confirmed by Atomic force microscopic technique and contact angle measurements. The scale inhibiting potential of the ChVSB for Calcium carbonate scale was investigated by static experiments and SEM analysis. The results exhibited the better scaling efficacy of ChVSB exhibiting 83.34% at the temperature of 70 °C and SEM analysis confirmed the morphological changes occurred in presence of ChVSB.
