Abstract
Emerging electrochemical technologies such as CO 2 electrolysis, Li-mediated NH 3 synthesis, and redox flow batteries offer promising pathways toward sustainable energy conversion and storage. The transition from academic research to industrial deployment, however, is hindered by significant gaps in proper testing protocols, cell configurations, and materials selection. This Perspective outlines key areas where academic efforts can better align with industrial needs of device manufactures─emphasizing standardized testing, relevant operating conditions (e.g., pressure, temperature), scalable fabrication methods, and material compatibility. By highlighting these challenges and opportunities, we aim to foster a more synergistic relationship between academia and industry to accelerate commercial viability.
