Abstract
A super wideband frequency reconfigurable antenna is designed for UWB wireless applications. The utilized antenna is of planar type with a modified hexagonal microstrip shape and tapered microstrip feed to provide a better impedance matching. The frequency behavior of the designed antenna has been controlled by utilizing two PIN diodes operate simultaneously. The antenna characteristics have been optimized to operate within an SWB range of (2.77 - 27.68) GHz with a rejection band from 3.84 to 6.69 GHz when both diodes are in the ON state or to operate in the full band (3.38 - 27.65) GHz when the diodes are in the OFF state. Different antenna parameters have been monitored and investigated for an efficient and clear view in understanding the proposed antenna operation. The results show a super band where the reflection coefficient is below the -10 dB level with a peak gain of 7.64 dB. The antenna patterns exhibit an omnidirectional shape at lower frequencies and less directivity at the notch level.
