Abstract

Hazardous waste (HW) management is challenging because of their extreme toxicity to the environment and human beings. In the meantime, the occurrence of safety incidents that is caused by HW disclosed severe problems of HW management in China. However, there are no specific summaries of the HW management in China. Herein, we performed a systematic review of the identification method, management hierarchy, policy, disposal methods, and opening problems of HWs in China. The differences in HW identification between China and the United States were well discussed. The current status of HW production, management, and disposal in each province was summarized, and the possible development in HW production and management was proposed. The results in this review are expected to provide useful implications in the improvement of HW management.
